Cooking up a new way to charge devices: PowerPot

Cooking up a new way to charge your devices.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    Imagine a cooking pot that generates electricity to help you keep your gadgets charged when there’s no other power source around.   A company called Power Practical is coming out with a new, larger sized model of its PowerPot that can generate 10 watts of power.  The original, smaller pot, generates 5.  VP Caleb Light…

“Technically it’s a thermoelectric generator.  And so what that means is thermoelectrics can take a temperature difference, say hot and cold side, and convert it into electricity with no moving parts.  And so we’ve applied that technology to the bottom of a cooking pot that you would typically take camping.”

The idea was good enough to win backing from Mark Cuban on the Shark Tank TV program.   Does it work?  You bet.   But it isn’t cheap.  The camping tech will set you back about 150 dollars for the 5 watt PowerPot.   It’s both cool and hot…and that should generate interest.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.  I’m Fred Fishkin.
