What can you make with a little computer? I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. They’re a way to get young people interested in science, technology and engineering…but little computers can also do some interesting things. Intel has something it calls Galileo. Jay Melican is what the giant chip company calls its Maker Czar…
“It runs Linux, runs a full operating system, it’s not just a micro controller. So it gives people the ability to not just make robots and do simple controls, but to also take advantage of a full operating system in their experiments, in their prototypes.”
Intel has donated Galileo units to many universities. You can find one online for under 90 dollars. A new postage stamp sized computer called Intel Edison arrives this summer. There are also other options out there like the Raspberry Pi…to play around with. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I’m Fred Fishkin.
