Intel's intros Pocket Avatar fun messaging app

Techstination feature for Friday, July 4, 2014

Intel jumps into the app business with Pocket Avatars.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.     Pocket Avatars is a new app for iOS and Android that injects a little more fun into mobile messaging.   The surprise is that it comes from the big chip maker Intel…where New Devices Group VP Mike Bell says….

“It takes the concept of chat and makes it a lot more personal and engaging.  We use the front facing camera on your phone or tablet to watch what your face does as you speak and then we overlay that on top of an animated character.  So you end up with a little short video of a 1080 character speaking with your voice and mimicking your facial expressions.  It’s a lot of fun.”

The basic apps are free.   There are some add on avatar characters that you do have to pay for.  Typically 99 cents.  Again it’s Pocket Avatars.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.  I’m Fred Fishkin.
