A do it yourself wireless leak detection system for the home.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   A company called SNUPI Technologies is out with a leak detection system called Wally Home.   It has a base station that plugs into your home network…that communicates with small sensors that you place near sinks, toilets, hot water heaters, etcetera.   And the system can alert your smartphone in the event of a leak.   CEO Jeremy Jaech says the wireless technology is what sets it apart…

“We have developed our own communications protocol that underlies our sensors.  We use SNUPI, which stands for sensor network utilizing powerline infrastructure.  What makes it unique is that it uses all the electrical wiring in your home as a gigantic receiving antenna.”

That allows for long sensor battery life.   But we found placement of the sensors to enable communications can be a bit tricky.  You’ll need to get them as near to a wall containing wires as possible.   The WallyHome kit with six sensors is priced at about 300 dollars.  You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
