Dolby Atmos coming home

Techstination feature for Tuesday, August 5, 2014

Dolby’s latest surround sound technology is coming home.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Dolby Atmos has been adding to the movie going experience by enveloping the audience in sound.   Now Pioneer, Onkyo and some other manufacturers are bringing the technology into some home A/V receivers.   Glenn Kiser is director of the Dolby Institute…

“Dolby Atmos for the home is going to become more widely available before the end of this year.  And certainly those titles that have been theatrically mixed for Atmos will eventually migrate down into the home.  And we’re looking at different applications for the technology, broadcast origination as well.  It’s an exciting time for us to sort of reimagine how the sound experience is going to work for the home.”

So if you’re a movie buff with a home theater…get ready to spring for a sound system upgrade.   There are lots of films from this summer’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes to I Origins that have been created using Dolby Atmos.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
