A smartwatch that won’t need your smartphone.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.     Seems like everyone is announcing a new smartwatch these days.   The folks at Timex added their own twist with the Ironman One GPS+.     It has a built in cellular connection…using AT&T’s network…enabling it to send and receive messages,  can store up to 4 gigabytes of music and can connect to Bluetooth stereo headphones.   Timex VP for research Tom Essery…says that wireless connection means you can leave the phone at home when you’re out for a run and still be safe…

“We have what we call an SOS mode where you can pre-configure in a server a number of people you consider close family, close friends, that you would want to be notified in an emergency.  You go for your run or an activity, get injured, you can push a single button and they will be notified.”

The Ironman One GPS+ arrives this fall for about four hundred dollars.   That includes the first year of wireless service.  You can find us at BootCamp.com.  I’m Fred Fishkin.
