The smartest smartwatch of all? It comes from 2 high school students.

A couple of 17 year olds come up with what could be the smartest watch of all.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.  Eddy Zhong and Mark Rice are seniors at Bronfield High School in Boston.    And, says Eddy, they set out to use technology to solve a problem…

“So in school we were experiencing a lot of trouble staying awake in the classroom and we were seeing a lot of other fellow classmates who were having the same problem.”

They decided wearable technology would be a better solution than coffee or Red Bull…

“So we actually created a watch that keeps you awake during the day by keeping track of your motion and then vibrating when it detects you have fallen asleep.”

With the help of some mentors, they raised about 25 thousand dollars on Kickstarter to begin manufacturing the Blanc watch.   It sells for about 50 dollars at WearBlanc.com.   And it turns out students aren’t the only ones who get drowsy…

“Security guard firms have reached out to us, emergency room nurses, people with narcolepsy who are struggling to stay awake during both day and night.

Beyond that Eddy and Mark are already at work on their next product.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
