HTC's Re camera

Techstination feature for Thursday, November 20, 2014

HTC sells a camera…that’s not built into a phone or tablet.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    HTC is the maker of the new Nexus 9 Android tablet and is well known for its phones too.   Now it has a little periscope shaped camera that it wants to put into the hands of consumers.   HTC Americas President Jason Mackenzie…

“It’s something we call Re.  And what we try to do reimagine mobile photography.   And the problem with mobile photography is, even though we are big smartphone producers and advocates as HTC, you’re not always fast enough to capture what you want getting your phone out.  And even when you do, you’re stuck living it through a four or five inch display.  And so we wanted to give customers an easy way to capture what’s important to them but allow them to live in the moment at the same time and not be stuck behind a viewfinder.”

The Re can use a smartrphone as a viewfinder if you want.   It shoots 16 megapixel stills and HD video and is waterproof.   The price…about 200 dollars.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
