Fitness trackers to help with New Year's resolutions

Techstination feature for Wednesday, December 31, 2014

A fitness tracker can help with that New Year’s resolution.     I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.     Wearable fitness tech is hot…and is getting better all the time.   Here’s a rundown of some favorites….

Garmin’s VivoFit doesn’t have the same smartphone notification capability that some bands have…but it runs for up to a year on a user replaceable battery and has a great display to show you the time or your step count in any kind of light.   And you can find it for under a hundred dollars.

The LifeTrak Brite also runs on a replaceable battery so you can avoid having one more thing to keep charged.   It has a built in heart rate monitor,  smartphone notifications, measures your exposure to light and has a regular watch style band.

Another favorite that I was surprised by is the Microsoft Band.   It has a very good heart rate monitor built in….connects to just about any kind of smartphone for notifications…and has the best clasp I’ve seen on a band style fitness tracker.  Don’t underestimate the importance of that.  You can find it for about two hundred dollars.

You can find us at BootCamp.com.  I’m Fred Fishkin.
