Making it safer on the road for cyclists. I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. When it comes to car safety, Volvo has built its reputation over many decades. Now the carmaker is showing how technology can be used to protect cyclists who are sharing the roads. Chief Information Officer Klas Bendrik showed off a prototype helmet at this month’s International Consumer Electronics Show….that could reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by car-bicycle collisions….
“It would basically connect a cyclists through the helmet via a smartphone to our connected vehicles and through that are able to exchange two way information between the cyclist and the driver. So we are able to provide them with information and proximity alerts if there is a close encounter or a potential collision.”
Of course the technology would have to be used by other carmakers as well to be effective. Volvo is showing how it can be done. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I’m Fred Fishkin.
