Garmin's new Fenix 3 multi-sport smart watch

Techstination feature for Wednesday, March 18, 2015

The Apple Watch may be coming, but competitors aren’t exactly standing still.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   From Pebble to Samsung and Motorola to Garmin…companies that make smart watches are bracing for the new competition from Apple.   At Garmin, the new Fenix 3 has arrived, combining a rugged multi-sport watch with the ability to connect to smartphones for notifications.  Garmin’s Maddie Estrada….

“We just added an updated UI, a color screen, it has the advanced running dynamics, cycling options as well.   And it also is compatible with our Connect IQ  platform.  So it essentially makes it a smartwatch as well.”

It is a big, rechargeable watch.  Unlike some competitors it does not have a built in heart rate sensor, but easily connects to heart rate bands sold by Garmin and others.   There’s more info at Garmin.com.  You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin
