What did you accomplish in high school? Intel's Science Talent Search

Techstination feature for Monday, March 23, 2015

So what did you accomplish in high school?   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   The stories that came out of this month’s Intel Science Talent Search awards are simply put, amazing.   I don’t know about you, but when I think back on my high school days, I wasn’t exactly preoccupied with coming up with a scientific or medical breakthrough.   Here’s one example of a student who is doing just that.   17 year old Anvita Gupta of Scottsdale, Arizona, was awarded a Medal of Distinction and a 35 thousand dollar prize by Intel for her work in using artificial intelligence to teach a computer to identify potential drugs for cancer, tuberculosis and Ebola….

“You can really reduce the amount of drugs you have to order and the experiments you have to do.  And you can really make it affordable to find these medicines.”

Her work is already producing results.   Anvita by the way…just got her acceptance letters from MIT and Harvard.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
