What can a 17 year old do in the world of science and engineering?   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Every once in a while, we hear about someone we’d like you to meet.   Today, it’s Raymond Wang.   A high school junior from Vancouver…who this month took the top prize in this year’s Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.    His winning entry…engineered in just a few month’s time…is a new way to clean the air on planes to prevent the spread of diseases and make us all more comfortable while flying…

“I was actually inspired to tackle this issue after hearing about the Ebola outbreak way back in December.  And what I actually found when I started looking into disease epidemics was that although Ebola is something that spreads more through large droplet routes, there are other epidemics and diseases, such as with H1N1 and SARS that spread directly through the air.”

There is already interest in the aircraft industry and for his work, Raymond was awarded 75 thousand dollars by Intel.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
