Camio turns old phones & tablets into searchable net cameras

Techstination feature for Thursday, June 4, 2015

Turning a spare smartphone or tablet into a camera to monitor your home.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    Chances are you’ve got an extra phone or tablet or computer around the house that is no longer being used.   A company called Camio makes apps that let you use those devices as cloud based cameras….and the innovation doesn’t end there.  CEO and co-founder Carter Maslan says Camio then gives users a daily minute or so video summary of what took place …

“Camio learns on a per camera basis what’s interesting to each individual user so at the end of the day you just get a nice summary that we call the Camio Daily that highlights out of an entire day the four events that were most interesting.”

Setting up one device with Camio is free…including storage of your clips for 30 days.  Each additional camera that you want to use simultaneously costs 9 dollars a month.   There’s more info at Camio.com.  You can find us at BootCamp.com.    I’m Fred Fishkin.
