Automating lights and window shades.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.     When it comes to the connected home…Lutron has zeroed in on products to control lighting and window shades.   The company’s Caseta Wireless line includes motorized Serena Shades and in-wall dimmer switches or wall plugs.   And Director of Product Management Matt Swatsky says the system is designed to work with other home automation products on the market…

“There’s a few different ways we can do that.  One is through the cloud.  But we do it very simply.  One example is our app actually has the ability to add a Nest thermostat.  And so you can do light, shades and temperature, which are the core of your house.  Another way is our dimmers actually attach to the Staples Connect Hub or the Wink Hub that’s available at Home Depot and Amazon.”

Installation is simple, if you are comfortable enough replacing a light switch.  Lutron’s Caseta Wireless also works with Apple’s HomeKit and Logitech Harmony remotes.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.  I’m Fred Fishkin.
