Stitch.net aimed at companionship for seniors

Techstination feature for Friday, September 18, 2015

A Web site aimed at the social isolation of seniors.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Some may see it as a  dating site for seniors.   But what Stitch.net considers itself to be is a site that connects active adults over fifty for companionship.  Being single is not a requirement according to co-founder Marcie Rogo….

“Several years ago, during my MBA, I had interned in a senior living facility actually, and noticed there was this epidemic of loneliness.  People that had similar interests but not knowing it because they were in their rooms all day.  And they felt like they had moved there to die.  And what I thought was it can be very awkward to go up to strangers and ask them what they would like to do.”

Basic membership in Stitch is free.  The paid version is 50 dollars a year.   The site takes the verification of its members seriously, to prevent scammers from using it to prey upon seniors.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
