LG makes OLED TVs more affordable

Techstination feature for Monday, October 26, 2015

LG makes OLED TVs more affordable.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    It was only two years ago, when LG came out with a 55 inch OLED high definition TV that was priced at 15 thousand dollars.    Now the company has dropped the price to under 2 thousand….and there are dramatic decreases for other models…including 4K Ultra HD screens too.   How is the technology different?  VP John Taylor….

“Well OLED is an emissive technology which means that each individual pixel is illuminated.   It gives you the opportunity to turn each pixel off as well.  So you have perfect blacks.  And you compare this to an LCD LED TV that can tend to look washed out in comparison.  You really get a much more vibrant  experience with OLED.”

The TVs all feature the WebOS platform and the 4K models are equipped to access content from a variety of partners including Amazon and Netflix.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
