Will this be the year of Virtual Reality?    I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    From the Sundance Film Festival to immersive experiences of all kinds…including games…the world of virtual reality content is growing every day.   And while the quality varies widely and some users find the whole thing makes them feel queasy…there is no doubt that VR is exploding.    A company called Merge VR is helping to lead the charge with an affordable, comfortable headset….that works with a variety of smartphones.   Co-founder Andrew Trickett says what’s arriving on 360 degree video is pretty exciting….

“So this is film that’s shot with lenses in a lot of different positions so that as you look around in the film the scene reacts to you.  So you’re seeing what’s in front of you, what’s behind you, what’s to your left, what’s to your right, all the way 360 degrees not only horizontally but also vertically.”

The Merge VR headset, made of soft, durable foam, sells for under a hundred dollars.    You can find us at BootCamp.com.  I’m Fred Fishkin.
