A printer that can order its own ink...courtesy of Amazon

Techstination feature for Tuesday, February 23, 2016

A printer that can order its own ink…is just the beginning.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.     Amazon calls it the Dash Replenishment Service.   Technology that allows a Brother printer, for example, to order ink before it runs out.   Or a GE washing machine to order detergent.   It’s part of Amazon’s bid to automate the ordering process….or simplify it so you just have to push a Dash button.  Where does it go from here?  Amazon’s Director of Devices Daniel Rausch…

“Well I think our goal, whenever we find something that’s working great for customers is to make it more widely available and to keep doubling down.  So you’ll see selection growth of buttons over the coming year.   And then you’ll see that more and more manufacturers are signing up for Dash Replenishment Service as well.”

Rausch points out that customers can use apps to make changes or cancel services as they need to.   The Dash buttons do require Amazon Prime membership.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
