Connecting your car to your smart home: Automatic

Techstination feature for Monday, March 21, 2016

Connecting your car to your smart home.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.       More and more things around the house are connected these days.     A company called Automatic makes it pretty simple to add your car to that list of things.   It makes a gadget that plugs into the on board diagnostics port of just about any car made in the last twenty years.  And then you pair it with the Automatic app on your smartphone.   And what can it do?    Head of content and outreach Damon Lavrinc…

“From a driving standpoint, we do a lot of driver coaching.  So based on acceleration, braking and speed, we can figure out how to improve your efficiency.  There’s a lot of other opportunities as far as the Internet of things go.   So, once your car is online that can be used for a trigger for a multitude of events.  It could be everything from changing the temperature in your house, to turning on the lights.  That kind of thing.”

It even connects with Amazon’s Alexa…so you can ask …Alexa, how much fuel is in my car…before you head out the door.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
