Student created Doorbell app designed for inter-building communities

Techstination feature for Friday, August 26, 2016

When is a doorbell not a doorbell.   I’m Fred Fishkin with BootCamp, your Techstination for gadgets and gear.    Doorbell is the name of a startup and app created by a group of students from Harvard.  It’s a platform that link people who are living in the same building.   The idea has been winning fans in tests in New York City and says co-founder Aleeza Hashmi…

“What we imagined was let’s create a platform where you can actually connect with the people in your building for things like…let’s say you need to borrow a printer or even find a babysitter for your children.  We were thinking it would be a great way to integrate functional items like paying your rent.  So it really is an all encompassing app.”

Designed to create communities out of neighbors who otherwise might remain strangers.   The students, as you might have guessed, were inspired by life in the dorm and the neighborhoods where they grew up back home.  The app is in the Apple store.  There’s more at Doorbell.me.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
