Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. It’s never good for consumers when there are different standards battling for supremacy in consumer electronics. VHS vs BetaMax, Blu-Ray vs HD DVD and maybe the worst is the different standards that prevent us from being able to use many mobile phones on the carrier of our choice. But a new group called the Virtual Reality Industry Forum is trying to prevent those kinds of problems…bringing together companies to set standards for creating content and watching it. One of those involved in the organizing is Ericsson VP David Price…
“We had people from Sony Pictures and Warner Brothers and Fox, etcetera. Their deepest fear is that they’re going to have to prepare VR content in multiple different formats to be able to service the different head mounted display devices.”
And the hope is the VRIF will help to avoid that. You can find us at Techstination.com. I’m Fred Fishkin.
