Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. With the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration saying there’s a good chance for a more active than normal hurricane season…Verizon says it is working to ensure mobile phone service continues…in the event of severe storms. Network VP Mike Haberman says that includes building cell sites on stilts in flood prone areas….and even using drones when necessary to assess any damage. Haberman says both generators and batteries are used to provide back up power…
“Cause sometimes what can happen is the generator might have a problem or a starter might be a problem …so we do have batteries at cell sites as well that can sustain the cells for a number of hours until the generator could be repaired or if there is some other issue going on it could be taken care of as well.”
And the advice to the rest of us is to keep back up batteries that can charge phones and tablets charged and ready as well.
