A Mouse With Feelings.. IFeel Technology From Logitech

Techstination feature for Thursday, August 31, 2000

Falling into the better mouse trap. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bloomberg Bootcamp. You've been using that little mouse alongside your computer for who knows how long. Do you need a better one? Logitech hopes you will. Its latest line of mice not only have optical technology... .no little ball on the bottom to get dirty... now there is something called TouchSense developed by the Immersion Corporation. It adds a tactical feel to mouse movements. What for? Product manager Julie Goebel...

"Well the value of it is that now you can feel what you're touching. So, before you had to point and click on things... now you can point, feel it and then click. For example, when you're in your bookmarks and you go down a list of bookmarks and you're trying to select, sometimes it's difficult to actually feel which one you're on. This gives you the sense of feel so that you click on the right one and you avoid going to the wrong bookmark and then realize that... Oh, my God, go back. So it helps you to navigate through your desktop and it makes it easier to use your computer."

Drag your mouse down a list and you feel a bump, bump, bump... like the rungs of a ladder. It may be more fun than useful, imagine feeling the cards shuffle when you're playing solitaire. The new IFeel mice will be on the market in the coming weeks starting at about 40 dollars. So falling into the better mouse trap, isn't too expensive. There's more info at Logitech.com.
