Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. Better mobile networks are on the way. Verizon has conducted its first real world test of technology that can bump up the speed of the carrier’s existing 4G network to nearly one gigabyte per second. It was deployed in Boca Raton, Florida and Network VP Mike Haberman says….
“So we were able to achieve that. We were able to achieve it through using multiple technologies that we’re in the process of deploying. First of them was 4 by 4 multiple input, multiple output, which is in the system being widely deployed.”
In the meantime, rival T-Mobile, has begun deploying new 600 MHz LTE with the focus on improving service in many rural areas around the country. Phones that will be able to use the new spectrum are due by the end of the year.
