For Labor Day: Bloomlife wearable tracks pregnancy contractions

Techstination feature for Monday, September 4, 2017

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.     We couldn’t resist talking about this new gadget….for Labor Day.       A company called Bloomlife is out with a wearable device designed for women who are going into labor.    CEO Eric Dy says  during the later stages of pregnancy, the user wears Bloomlife….equipped with sensors….and it provides feedback about contractions for her and her doctor…

“So the sensor is worn on the belly and we pick up the electrical activity of the uterus.  We process that data locally on the sensor and then we transmit some of that to a smart phone app where a woman can see in real time whether or not she is having contractions, see what that pattern looks like over time, see if it’s getting more regular, more frequent.”

And know if she is in fact going into labor.   The price is about 100 dollars a month for the device.   There’s more at Bloomlife.com.
