Microsoft Makes Works Work Better

Techstination feature for Monday, September 11, 2000

Microsoft makes Works work better. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bloomberg Bootcamp. I'm usually not a great fan of suite software. I'd prefer to pick and choose applications. But Microsoft's latest package, Works Suite 2001... is a bundle that's hard to resist...

"Works Suite 2001 includes the newest version of Word 2000, so SR1, it includes Works 2001, it also includes Encarta Standard, Money, Picture It Publishing, as well as Streets and Trips. So there's something for everyone in the household to really accomplish those key home tasks."

Product Manager Hillarie Flood. If you use Microsoft Word at the office, perhaps the best way to legally install the program at home is to buy Works Suite 2001. It typically sells for under a hundred dollars. A useful new feature this year... syncs your Works addressbook with your handheld computer or wireless phone...

"So once you make a change to your address book on your PC, you don't have to re-key all those numbers into your cell phone, you can just simply use the cable and connect it to your cell phone then download those new phone numbers and addresses to your cell phone. A lot of the new model cell phones will support this technology. On the Win CE and Palm side, we're using ActiveSync technology and now you can actually sync your address book and Works calendar with your handheld device."

Works Suite, however, doesn't use Outlook, the more popular application you may use at the office. Bootcamp, I'm Fred Fishkin, Bloomberg News.
