Aud: Eisenhower answers America
The American Museum of the Moving Image has created a new online exhibit of 180 Presidential Campaign TV commercials... going all the way back to Adlai and Ike. David Schwartz is the museum's chief curator of film... .
"There's a lot of nostalgia in the exhibit because these commercials really summarize in a short amount of time... in thirty seconds or sixty seconds... they really summarize that time period. You know the style of how the commercial was made, what people are wearing and what the commercial looks like... but also what are the key issues of the time."
And while there's so much talk today about negative campaign ads... .browse through the exhibit and you'll find...
"Attack ads are nothing new. There were attacks ads, believe it or not, against Dwight Eisenhower in 1952."
