Solving the Mystery of Good Software for Girls

Techstination feature for Monday, October 2, 2000

Seventy years after she first appeared in print, Nancy Drew is still going strong in the high tech world. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bloomberg Bootcamp. You would have thought that young girls by now would be saying... Nancy who?... instead of Nancy Drew. But the line of mystery books continues to sell... .and so do CD ROM titles from Her Interactive. Her president Megan Gaiser...

"Our goal is to create fun and challenging entertainment for girls of all ages and we started out targeting girls between the ages of ten and fifteen. And we're finding that Nancy Drew has such wide appeal that mothers are playing the game and also brothers and fathers."

The third CD ROM in the series... Message in a Haunted Mansion... comes out this month. And believe it or not... the original author of the Nancy Drew books, Carolyn Keene... .who is 94 years old and still works as a reporter for the Toledo Blade... likes what she sees in the interactive character... .

"She looked at the game and she really like it and what we loved is she said... you did what I did with the books... you made it seem like you are Nancy Drew. And she actually did a review for us in the Toledo Blade on the game. But what we've done is transform the books into a 3D interactive experience."

Nancy Drew helps to solve another mystery... the case of the lack of good software for girls. You can find more information at HerInteractive.com. Bootcamp, I'm Fred Fishkin, Bloomberg News.
