Toyota maps growth of hydrogen fuel cell powered Mirai

Techstination feature for Thursday, December 27, 2018

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.     As we head into a new year, Toyota is putting some marketing muscle behind its hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicle, the Mirai.   The name means Future in Japanese and the vehicle is available for purchase or lease now in Los Angeles and San Francisco.   Jackie Birdsall is a senior engineer with the fuel cell vehicle group at Toyota…

“It’s all electric, but it can get about 300 miles of range in about five minutes of fueling with hydrogen.”

And until those hydrogen fueling stations get built out…the markets where Mirai is available will be limited.  But just think of the advantages..

“It’s an all electric vehicle unplugged.  So for our customers that means that they can drive an all electric, zero emission vehicle without having to plug it in at home or go to a charging station.”

Toyota’s goal..is to take it mainstream.   Stay tuned.
