Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.        Technology that would allow us humans to breath underwater for extended periods of time without the need for oxygen tanks or a tether to the surface is close at hand.    Inventor Jun Kamei …who calls himself a biomimicry designer and his company Amphibio have developed a mask and garment made of membranes that he says can take oxygen from water.   Artificial gills.   Kamei says his interest stems from rising sea levels around the world…

“The whole idea of the garment which doubles as a gill started initially with looking into how urban environments might change in the future.”

He estimates that Amphibio will be producing those garments in about three years.
