"Mdeverywhere provides a service for physicians that allows them to use a Palm Pilot or other handheld computer to capture every single encounter they have with a patient and to streamline the process and to error proof it so that we can improve quality of care while decreasing costs."
Dr. Hey is a practicing orthopedic surgeon at Duke University Medical Center... who also happens to have an electrical engineering degree from MIT. The MDeverywhere service is subscription based. Doctors pay a small fee per transaction... but says Dr. Hey... they save far more than the costs through the automation of patient records and insurance forms. But the biggest advantage could be the reduction in the number of medical mistakes...
"Healthcare is getting more and more complex and everybody's working hard and physicians need tools to enable them to take better care of patients and to prevent mistakes before they happen. So this, I think, is something that most patients are going to begin to insist or will look to see if their doctors are using tools like what MDeverywhere provides."
