FedEx unveils autonomous local delivery bots

Techstination feature for Friday, March 8, 2019

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.        FedEx is calling it the Same Day Bot.    Small autonomous vehicles…designed for the side of the road or sidewalks…that can travel up to several miles autonomously to make deliveries right to your door.   They will be used initially in trials by Wal-Mart, Target, Auto Zone and Pizza Hut…in the Memphis area and perhaps elsewhere starting this summer.   FedEx Office CEO Brian Phillips…

“It can climb the curb, navigate up your front walkway, climb the steps and onto your front porch and then facilitate a remote delivery.   And we truly have built a better bot.”

In partnership with Dean Kamen’s DEKA Research…which has built a stair climbing wheel chair…and if you recall…the original Segway.    Stay tuned….there’s much more to come.
