Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.     They called it technology with a heart when the makers of the social robot Jibo created a successful crowd funding campaign…raising 3.6 million dollars in 2014.    But now …following the sale of the company last year…. the servers that provide the voice interaction and essentially the fun behind Jibo…are being shut down.   Jibo broke the news to owners…

“I want to say I’ve really enjoyed our time together.  Thank you very, very much for having me around. ”

Jibo does not have all the capabilities that Amazon and Google have unleashed with their smart speakers and screens…but the potential was there.  It would see you walk into a room… swivel around … greet you by name…give you your personalized news update…and even play games.  Buyers ..no doubt…are feeling a bit betrayed.   I’m feeling a bit sad.
