"Groove is about private spaces. Spaces between you and other people who are say in your family or in a work group that you work with at work or with some other type of an organization that you work with and it creates secure spaces where the information that you share is only shared with those individuals. Not with the world at large."
The preview version of the Groove platform is available for free at Groove.net. You can try it to share files, hold online meetings or even to play interactive games. Another platform with a similar thrust is called GlobeDrive... where Yossi Krasnjanski says... it works like this...
"What you would do is you would install a small piece of client software on the machine that you want to share files from. And once that's installed you can access your machine, if your machine is on, from any Internet enabled machine. No download required."
Again, the software is free from Globedrive.com. Bootcamp, I'm Fred Fishkin, Bloomberg Radio.
