MIT team creates AI software for knitting

Techstination feature for Wednesday, August 28, 2019

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.        What does artificial intelligence have to do with knitting.    A group of researchers at MIT led by Alexadre Kaspar has been working on software that puts AI into knitting design.   And the thinking, Kaspar tells us, is that it will allow anyone to …using a knitting machine….get some pretty spectacular results creating their own garments…

“It typically is something that requires a lot of skills, you need training and experience to use it.  So we’re trying to break that barrier and make it such that everyone will be able to access those machines.”

The researchers are talking to knitting machine makers about bringing this to market.   It won’t be in time for you to create that holiday sweater this season….but it may not be long.   And commercial services could use the software to create customized garments as well.
