Digital Movie Making

Movie making... made easy. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bloomberg Bootcamp. Okay, so you're just getting the hang of playing with digital still pictures on your PC. When you're ready for more fun... take the plunge into digital video. More and more computer makers are adding what are called FireWire ports... .that give you high speed communication between digital video cameras and computers. And they're adding software to get you started. The best I've seen is iMovie 2 from Apple. Product manager John Bass...

"We've taken what used to be this incredibly complex, this incredibly cumbersome process and made it ultimately simple."

It really is that simple to create some pretty impressive productions... with titles, transitions and music mixed in. FireWire lets you control the digital video camera right from the software. You can even save your productions back onto the camera to show on your TV or dub onto videotape. On the PC side... Sony has been out front in adding FireWire to desktops and Vaio notebooks. If you have a Windows or Mac desktop or notebook without FireWire... .Belkin makes products to add the capability to both. Belkin's Eric Deming says if you have one of the more traditional analog camcorders...

"We also make a product for USB that is similar, but it's an analog capture device. So you could connect it to your camcorder that doesn't have the digital ability."

The products ship with MGI's VideoWave software ... another package that simplifies editing, even for beginners. Bootcamp, I'm Fred Fishkin, Bloomberg Radio.
