Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.    With the FDA having cleared the FreeStyle Libre 2 system…people with type 2 diabetes…including children as young as four have a new pain free option for monitoring glucose levels without the need for fingersticks.   The system is a sensor that is worn on the back of the arm according to Marc Taub heads technical operations for diabetes care at Abbott..

“It’s worn for up to fourteen days and it lets them monitor their glucose levels painlessly, minute by minute.  It also adds optional alarms so a user can know when glucose has gone above or below a threshold automatically.  Normally for people with diabetes what they need to do is take a finger stick blood glucose measurement.”
