Where Can You Be Reached? Vocaltec's TrulyGlobal

Techstination feature for Wednesday, December 27, 2000

Where can you be reached? New Internet tools will give you control. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bloomberg Bootcamp. It's a new service on the way from the company that originated a product called Internet Phone more than five years ago. Vocaltec is rolling out what it calls TrulyGlobal. It will allow consumers to go on the Web... .and route incoming calls to wherever they happen to be. Vocaltec CEO Elon Ganor says for instance...

"I just arrived from Israel. Upon arrival I went to my TrulyGlobal set up on the Web and I asked all my TrulyGlobal calls to be forwarded to my cell phone in the U.S.. Let's say that my cellular phone right now ran out of batteries and I'm here with you and I ask, do you mind if I get my calls in your office. You say no, no problem. I go to the Web, get in my account and just in a matter of seconds, I'll have all my TrulyGlobal calls directed to your phone."

You can even pick and choose on the Web, which callers you want routed through and which ones you don't. Initially, TrulyGlobal calls have to be initiated on a PC. In fact, the basic PC to PC service is free. But Vocaltec is working with some big telecom names to migrate the service to telephones...

"In a way it's similar to the one number dream. But the difference between that one and what we're doing is... .this one works."
