New Computer? Try PCsync

Techstination feature for Tuesday, January 9, 2001

Have a new PC? An easy way to move files over from the old to the new. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bloomberg Bootcamp. The folks at LapLink.com are at it again. The company with a history of creating simple solutions for connecting computers dating back to 1983 is out with a new package called Pcsync. CEO Mark Eppley...

"Pcsync is designed to solve that number one problem when you buy a new PC. What is that problem? You get your new PC home and what's the first thing you have to do?"

Move those files from your old computer to your new one...

"That's what we solve with Pcsync. One of the things we solve. We ship with it, of course, bandwidth in a box. And those are two cables. One cable, the blue one, is equivalent to a DSL connection. This one in my hand right here, this purple cable is equivalent to more than three T1 lines. You can copy an MP3 song, typical song, in under two seconds from machine to machine. An entire album in under two minutes."

Pcsync also allows you to share files over the Internet... and that makes the eighty dollar package useful after you've set up that new computer...

"If you only use this product once, it pays for itself when you've got a new PC. But we think customers will use it many more times after that. They'll get a lot of usage out of it. You've got jumper cables in the trunk of your car. You get a new PC, you need Pcsync to go with that."
