Professors create double sided disc earth map to fix inaccuracies

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.        How do you look at the world?    Two Princeton professors …J. Richard Gott and Robert Vanderbei…along with Drexel Professor David Goldberg….have created a new type of flat map….double sided and disc shaped.   And it is designed to be much more accurate when it comes to such things as measuring distances.    Gott says think of it as an old vinyl record with two sides..

“And the equator goes around the edge.  So if you have two cities and you want to measure the distance between them, you just stretch a string between them or you stretch a string tight across the phonograph record on the other side.”

And the measurements would be accurate. The disc can show the Northern and Southern or Eastern and Western Hemispheres.   You’ll find a link to a printable version…and a video interview…on our Web site.
