BlackBerry Arrives for Lotus Notes

Techstination feature for Thursday, January 18, 2001

Lotus Notes users get a taste of BlackBerry. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bloomberg Bootcamp. People who have them, love them. Wirelessly connected BlackBerry pagers and organizers from Research in Motion. Until now, only companies with Microsoft Exchange based email servers could deploy the devices... .but...

"We're very pleased to be announcing a version for those folks who use Lotus Notes and the Domino email server that's part of the Lotus Notes family."

Research In Motion's David Werezak. The announcement effectively doubles the potential market for the wireless email devices that have many devoted fans. Why the popularity?

"First is it gives you your own corporate email wherever you travel in your business day. So people are able to stay on top of their corporate email while they're on the go. And we do that in a secure fashion. That's one of the unique things about BlackBerry. And we also do this in a push messaging mode. In other words it's the idea of always on, always connected and as soon as an email arrives for you at your company or on your email server, the system automatically turns it around."

And using the small but very usable keyboard on the BlackBerry, you can reply wirelessly as well. The always on feature is a big advantage...

"Many of the other wireless solutions on the market today require you to effectively dial in."
