Girls helping girls to code: Juliette Palacios and Computing Minds

Techstination feature for Thursday, April 29, 2021

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.     There are a lot of programs out there designed to get kids…especially girls…more interested in science, technology, engineering and math.   One young student…Juliette Palacios…from the Bay area…has taken matters into her own hands.  16 years old now…she was 14 when she launched a non profit called Computing Minds…to provide free live coding lessons to girls 9 to 12 years old…

“ So we use Zoom…so Zoom for the instruction and  then Scratch…which is scratch.mit.edu..and that is just a visual block based coding language.”

Palacios is shattering stereotypes and opening doors.   Even some boys have asked to learn with her organization which is continuing to grow.   You can find more at www.computingminds.org.
