Zipping Through Your Taxes

Techstination feature for Friday, February 2, 2001

Zipping through your taxes. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bloomberg Bootcamp. It's a new concept from Iomega. The removable storage company is partnering with Intuit to bundle it's popular tax preparation software TurboTax... .on Zip disks. The strategy makes sense. Iomega's Craig Rathbun...

"A technology that Iomega has launched called Active Disk technology combined with TurboTax, allows us to put Intiuit's TurboTax program on a Zip disk and when you install it into your Zip drive, the program automatically launches and takes you right into the start-up wizard where you start entering your personal financial information. The next benefit for consumers is that now your personal financial information that's the by product of the tax application, that information is going to be stored in the same place the application is on a Zip disk. So when you're done, you'll eject the Zip disk and now you'll have an archive of information stored on an Iomega Zip disk."

Lock it away and nothing is left stored on the computer.

"As far as protection goes, there's probably no better way to protect the data on your system than to take it off your system. A lot of people are suspicious still of Internet connectivity and wondering who is able to look into their PC when they're connected to the Internet."

You can find the software included in various bundles... including a two Zip disk pack for under thirty dollars. You can find us on the Web at Bloomberg.com/radio. Bootcamp, I'm Fred Fishkin, Bloomberg Radio.
