Home Remote Control That's Affordable

Techstination feature for Wednesday, February 14, 2001

A remote control system for your home... that won't break your budget. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bloomberg Bootcamp. Imagine having a sensor on your front door that could call or page you when someone comes in. And from your office computer, being able to log onto a Web site to monitor cameras inside or outside your home. A company called Xanboo, that's X-a-n-b-o-o, is making it easy and affordable... .

"Well Xanboo is a technology that allows a user to control, command or view their home or business through the Xanboo Web site. What makes us so special is the Xanboo system is so inexpensive, very easy to install, extremely simple to use."

Xanboo Co-President Bill Diamond. A wireless controller plugs into the USB port of your PC... .and gives you control of cameras and a variety of sensors...

"Once you install our system, you can do things... open and shut your garage door, lock and unlock your front door, change the temperature in your home, also, see what's going on in multiple rooms of your house all through our Xanboo site."

Some of the technology is available now... some will be shipping soon. The starter kit including the wireless command center and a camera equipped with a motion sensor sells for under 150 dollars. The monitoring over the Web requires a subscription fee of about ten dollars a month for unlimited use. Useful? You bet...

Picture a mother who wants to check on her two year old baby at home while she's working or maybe your son forgot his keys and you could let him in from Europe if you needed to.
