"Being a stubborn old cuss, I wasn't really particularly interested in hanging up my spikes. So I was looking for something to keep me involved and active."
So, 74 year old Al Maiocco has started all over again as a dot com entrepreneur... .selling specialty foods on the Web. His site is efoodpantry.com. The idea is to...
"Make available to consumers in small quantities, individual units if they desire, products that typically were becoming increasingly difficult to find in their local stores."
And so the Web site carries foods from the Pritikin line, organic foods and specialty sweeteners... .
"And our goal is not compete with the supermarkets or the specialty food stores or the natural food stores. Our goal is to sell access. I mean if the people can find the products in their local stores, hey that's great. If they can't find them, they can come to our Web site."
From a business perspective... Al has had to make some adjustments...
"Well the difference is that you have to be much more patient because you're selling in units rather than in full pallets. So the volume consideration is completely different."
As is the bottom line. But the 74 year old dot com-er still believes... .the Web is the wave of the future. Bootcamp, I'm Fred Fishkin, Bloomberg Radio.
