Networking your home made easy. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bloomberg Bootcamp. It doesn't take an expensive wiring project or an IT professional anymore... to set up a home network. New home portal devices make it easy, even when you want to combine say an Ethernet network in your home office with a phone line network in other areas of the house... and even wireless connections. A company called 2Wire captured a Best of Show award at this year's Consumer Electronics Show... .for its HomePortal 1500 wireless... .

"The HomePortal is a residential gateway product that allows for consumers to get access to high speed connectivity, comes to their home and the residential gateway product, the HomePortal from 2Wire allows for them to receive that signal and then broadcast it back out to every area of the home using any type of networking technology or access method that they would like."

The box including a DSL modem and a wireless access point sells for about six hundred dollars. A unit that connects a high speed cable modem to phone line and Ethernet networks sells for under two hundred. And that's just the start...

"The 2Wire vision is that moving forward, not only will we support data networking, but voice applications and entertainment applications as well."
