Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. This is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and we all know about the dangers of texting while driving. But GM is also highlighting another major factor…elevated emotional states. The automaker is out with a Future of Safety Research Study…and GM Safety Engineer Tricia Morrow tells us…
“Texting on your handheld phone can increase your crash risk by six times. But driving in that agitated, elevated emotional state that can really be recorded. They were able to see on cameras, can increase your crash risk by 9.8 times…so almost 10 times.
How to help? One way to help reduce anxiety is to scream the stress out of your system before you drive. GM has a TikTok Challenge for people to create and share. They worked with some influencers to get things started. The hashtag is ScreamItOut.
