Printer Price Wars... Xerox

Techstination feature for Friday, March 30, 2001

The printer price wars continue. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bloomberg Bootcamp. It's good news for consumers. Ink jet printers keep getting better... and prices keep getting lower. Among the most aggressive companies cutting prices is Xerox... .which has just cut the price of its all in one WorkCentre M940 in half... .to 199 dollars...

"It's a three in one machine that is a high quality color printer, a great color copier and also a color scanner. All in one small package."

Xerox category manager Les Eisenberg. The M940 includes a flatbed scanner, great for scanning documents or photos of all kinds. The strategy, says Eisenberg, is straightforward...

"What Xerox is doing now is we are offering obviously better value for the customer. With the Xerox product you're going to get a lot more for your dollar. For example, at the price point we're playing at we have speeds which are faster than anyone else, as well as we're bringing unique technology to the market that no one else has. Including such things as express mode, which is a unique printing mode that allows you to print up to fifty percent faster than our competition in business quality. We also have ink logic, which includes individual color ink tanks so consumers only replace the color ink that they need."

That can save you money. Those ink cartridges are the most expensive part of printing. Xerox estimates the typical cost at about 6 cents per black and white page, 11 cents for color. You can find more information at Xerox.com. Bootcamp, I'm Fred Fishkin, Bloomberg Radio.
