It looks like a cell phone... .but it's also a Palm. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bloomberg Bootcamp. It has been two years since Qualcomm first integrated a Palm organizer into a wireless phone. The pdQ was big and expensive. Since then, Kyocera has purchased Qualcomm's wireless phone division and went back to the drawing board on the pdQ. The result... the brand new Kyocera smartphone... or QCP 6035... .

"Surprisingly, it's a thin phone. It's not a very big phone. Fits easily in your pocket and everything you have is right at your fingertips."

David Samberg of Verizon Wireless... first out of the gate to offer the smartphone. The price, 499 dollars with a service contract. The design is comfortable. Much more than its predecessor and its competition..the Handspring VisorPhone. The smartphone does a great job integrating the features of the Palm and adds a few twists... .

"Now you can use voice activated dialing. You can surf the Web using the browser, you can leave messages on the phone for yourself, not only do we provide you with your own email address if you want to use it, but you can also get your POP email accounts. It's a lot of different devices rolled up into one small package."

And instead of paying for a separate wireless access account, you use your wireless plan minutes for browsing and email. There are more integrated devices on the way, but for now the Kyocera smartphone is king of the hill. Bootcamp, I'm Fred Fishkin, Bloomberg Radio.
